High School Students at Mikva Challenge Give Cheers for Brown During Five-Minute Speech and Proudly Wear Friendship Bands that read, ‘Dorothy Brown for County President’

CHICAGO—More than 250 high school students from the Mikva Program have volunteered for Dorothy Brown’s Campaign to become the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

“I am excited about working with so many great young people to spread our message of innovation, reform and fiscal responsibility that Cook County government needs and its voters deserve,” said Dorothy Brown during the Mikva Challenge event held Nov. 11 at Jones Commercial High School in downtown Chicago.  “I am running for Cook County Board President for you who will be the decision makers of tomorrow. It is time we get out of the old politics and think not outside the box, but create new boxes.”

The Mikva Program is a youth organization organized by teachers and faculty for students who seek to be active participants in the political process through elections, activism and policy-making programs. The program exists in 24 different Chicago Public Schools from all across Chicago. Their motto is “Democracy is a verb.”

Some of those who volunteered are already organizing subcommittees on nonviolence, environment, economics and education.

*Dorothy Brown has served as Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County for nine years.  She is a CPA, has an MBA, holds a law degree, and has the executive management experience and financial background to set Cook County’s financial house in order.
